A railroad worker’s action to save a 6-year-old is recognized as an act of heroism.

Video surveillance cameras captured the shocking rescue of a 6-year-old boy who accidentally fell on the track just before being hit by a train.

The incident took place on April 17 at the train station in Vangani, India. The little boy accompanied his blind mother when he suddenly slid on the rails.

According to AFP, the woman’s desperate screams warned the people who were there. The images show the moment when a man quickly runs down the track when he sees the train approaching dangerously.

The makeshift rescuer is Mayur Shelke, a railroad worker recognized by authorities as a hero.

AFP said Indian Railways Minister Piyush Goyal confirmed that the 30-year-old employee would be rewarded for “motivating humanity through his work.”
