Tiger Woods was transferred to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles after a car accident on Tuesday that caused serious injuries to his leg, according to a statement Thursday night.
Dr. Anish Mahajan said Woods, 45, was removed from Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, about 18 miles south of downtown Los Angeles, “to continue orthopedic care and recovery.”
Woods was transferred Wednesday night, two sources told Ramona Shelburne. Cedars-Sinai is located approximately 21 miles north of Harbos-UCLA.
On Tuesday, Mahajan said that Woods had suffered multiple “open fractures” in the lower part of his right leg and that a ring had been placed in his shin and that screws and pins had been inserted into his foot and ankle during emergency surgery.
Two sources told ESPN that Woods injured a bone that connects the lower leg to the top of the foot and acts as a fulcrum for movement. Sources noted that the screws are placed in that area to help it heal and if all goes well, they allow for normal movement.
Harbor-UCLA Medical Center is a Level 1 trauma center, which means it is qualified to perform detailed surgery and care for trauma injuries. Cedars-Sinai has the renowned Sports Medicine Institute that has cared for professional athletes and has a rehabilitation program for orthopedic and sports-related injuries.
Los Angeles County sheriff Alex Villanueva said Wednesday that the department will not press charges against Woods for the accident near the Rolling Hills Estates and the Rancho Palos Verdes border, about 30 miles south of downtown Los Angeles. .
Villanueva said the department considered it an accident, which could lead to a crime in that case.
“(Tiger) wasn’t drunk. We can rule that out, ”said Villanueva.
