Tiger Woods ‘in a good mood’ after follow-up leg injury procedures

Tiger Woods is “recovering and resurrected” after undergoing follow-up procedures for his leg injuries on Friday morning, according to a statement on his Twitter account.

Woods underwent his procedures at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, where he was transferred Wednesday night after the one-vehicle accident the day before, in which he sustained serious injuries to his right leg.

“Tiger and his family would like to thank you all for the great support and messages they have received in recent days,” the statement read. “We will not receive any further updates at this time. Thank you for your continued privacy.”

Woods, 45, was relocated from the Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, which is about 18 miles south of downtown Los Angeles, “for ongoing orthopedic care and recovery,” said Dr. Anish Mahajan.

On Tuesday, Mahajan said Woods had suffered multiple “open fractures” to his right lower leg and placed a bar in his shin and screws and pins in his foot and ankle during emergency surgery.

Two separate sources told ESPN on Wednesday that Woods has injured his talus bone, which connects the bottom of the lower leg to the top of the foot. The bone is a fulcrum for movement. Sources say screws have likely been inserted into the area to help it heal and, if all goes well, eventually allow normal movement.

Harbor-UCLA Medical Center is a level 1 trauma center, which means it is qualified to provide the most comprehensive surgical and other care for such injuries. Cedars-Sinai has a renowned sports medicine institute that focuses on professional athletes and a rehabilitation program for sports-related and orthopedic injuries.
