- A massive recall of kids and baby clothes sold in Target stores has been announced.
- The recall – basically two separate recalls announced on the same day – includes approximately 480,000 items of clothing, ranging from rompers to bathing suits.
- According to the recall bulletin, the snaps attached to the clothing can break or even detach from the clothing itself, posing the risk of cuts or suffocation.
When you buy clothes for a young person, you have a lot of confidence in the company that made it. Unfortunately for Target shoppers, nearly 500,000 items of clothing for children ranging from newborns to 12 months old are being recalled due to a serious problem with the snaps built into the clothing.
According to a few new recall bulletins posted by the Consumer Product Safety Division, the clothing – sold under the names Cloud Island and Cat & Jack and imported by Target – has received dozens of reports of the snaps being undone, broken, or fall off. A handful of complaints claim a child has been scratched, pinched, or torn as a result of the faulty snaps.

The recall for Cloud Island baby rompers is estimated at 299,000 units, while the Cat & Jack recall includes 181,000 units. Target asks anyone who purchased any of these clothing items to immediately return them to the store for a full refund. You can refer to the two recall bulletins for a complete listing of the specific products included in the recall, including item numbers, sizes, and descriptions.
Via the official recall bulletin:
Consumers should immediately remove the recalled infant rompers from their children and return them to a Target Store for a full refund. Consumers who purchased the rompers on Target.com can contact Target to receive a prepaid return label to return the rompers.
So far, the company has received 16 reports of the snaps breaking of the Cloud Island clothing and an additional 27 reports of the snaps breaking of the Cat & Jack swimwear. The Cat & Jack clothes were sold in Target stores and online at Target.com from December 2019 to December 2020, while the Cloud Island rompers were sold from July 2019 to October 2020.
If you purchased the apparel items through Target.com, you can contact the company using the information in the official recall bulletins and request a prepaid shipping label for your return. Once the item has been received, you will be refunded the full purchase amount.
It should go without saying, but this is a very serious recall and you shouldn’t take any chances. Even if you own one or more of these items of clothing and your child is doing well, there is no guarantee that the product is not defective. Your best bet is to follow the recall guidelines and return them as soon as possible for a refund that you can then spend on replacements that hopefully won’t have any problems in the future.
