SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg briefed the community about the local response to COVID-19 in their Friday night daily briefing.
Nirenberg reported a total of 143,503 COVID-19 cases and 1,710 total deaths in Bexar County, an increase of 2,889 new cases. On Friday, six deaths were confirmed from the virus.
The 7-day moving average of cases is 2,041, a significant increase and the highest ever since the start of the pandemic, Nirenberg said.
While those numbers are alarming, Nirenberg said hospital admissions showed a slight improvement.
City officials reported that 1,387 patients are being hospitalized, down from 20 on Thursday. The intensive care units reported 403 patients, up from 382. Of those patients, 243 are on ventilator, compared to 231 on Thursday.
10% of the manned beds and 53% of the fans are available.
Officials continued to ask for the public’s patients while they were rolling out vaccine doses in the limited shipments they receive. Until then, they advised the public to continue to make good efforts to stop the spread of the virus.
