‘The Muppets’ hit with a content warning from Disney

Even the Muppets are “offensive” these days.

Anyone streaming “The Muppet Show” on Disney + will first see a declaimer – warning for “offensive content”.

Disney has released five seasons of the iconic show for streaming on Friday, allowing viewers to enjoy watching Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear and their celebrity guests as part of the $ 6.99 per month service.

The disclaimer displayed before each episode warns viewers that the show contains “ stereotypes ” and “ abuse of people or cultures. ”

“This program contains negative images and / or abuse of people or cultures. These stereotypes were wrong then and are now wrong ”, the disclaimer states.

“Rather than removing this content, we want to recognize its harmful impact, learn from it and spark a conversation to create a more inclusive future together”, disclaimer says

“Disney is committed to creating stories with inspiring and ambitious themes that reflect the rich diversity of the human experience around the world,” the statement added.

It is not specified exactly what Disney considers offensive in the show, but some of the characters portray Native American, Middle Eastern and Asian people.

And season five sees legendary country singer Johnny Cash seen in front of a Confederate flag.

The warning also appears for some iconic films, including ‘Aristocats’, ‘Dumbo’, ‘Peter Pan’ and ‘Swiss Family Robinson’.
