Between The Witcher, Castlevania, and the forthcoming Assassin’s Creed and Resident Evil TV shows currently in production, Netflix has become a hotbed of content based on popular video game franchises. Now, a new rumor suggests this trend could continue with a new series around one of gaming’s most iconic fantasy properties.
A new report has stated that Netflix is considering partnering with Bethesda to create a new series based on The Elder Scrolls series of video games. Started in 1994, The Elder Scrolls has been one of Bethesda’s longest-running franchises with standout entries to the main series, including Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim. When it comes to what the show would be about, it would be of the live-action variety. Netflix also would like this show to be as great as The Witcher when it would blossom.
As for where the rumor comes from, it comes through a certain Daniel Ritchtman. Ritchtman has proven to be quite a reliable source in the past and has had scoops beforehand regarding the film and television industry. So while you should definitely take this report with the usual grain of salt, it may very well have validity.
In terms of how Bethesda could approach a situation like this, there’s a track record showing they might be willing to play with Netflix. For those who don’t remember, Bethesda announced in 2020 that it is partnering with Amazon to create a TV series based on its other major franchise, Fallout. While it remains to be seen whether the publishing label would want to partner with two separate streaming companies to create TV shows simultaneously, the previous step shows it’s at least interested in exploring the television world a bit more.
