SAN ANTONIO – Bexar County health officials announced Monday that anyone who would receive the second dose of COVID-19 vaccination at the Alamodome Tuesday through Thursday this week will be moved due to a delay in shipping by the Texas State Health Department.
All second dose vaccinations scheduled at the Alamodome will be moved at the same time of appointment to the following dates:
-
2 appointments will be moved to February 16
-
Appointments from February 3 will be moved to February 17
-
Appointments from February 4 will be moved to February 18
Individuals who are scheduled to receive the second dose of the vaccine Tuesday through Thursday of this week will receive further instructions via the email address or phone number provided with their registration. Appointments with the second dose scheduled for Monday and Friday of this week are not affected by the delay.
“We apologize for the inconvenience, but the doses assigned to us by the state have not arrived at this time,” said Dr. Anita Kurian, Deputy Director of Communicable Diseases at Metro Health. “We understand that some may be concerned about the longer time between their second doses, but we adhere to CDC guidelines to ensure that the vaccine will still work without problems. Pfizer and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines can be scheduled for administration up to 6 weeks (42 days) after the first dose. “

Metro Health is currently scheduling appointments about a week before their current state assignment in the hope that they will get the vaccines they have requested. Everyone who has had a first dose has automatically reserved a second dose.
If appointments are available at Alamodome, you can sign up for the vaccine online. Online registration is preferred, but if you need assistance, you can call 311 and select option 8. Residents have reported that it can be difficult to reach someone by phone.
