GenDesign, the studio made up of developers who have previously worked on popular games such as Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, and most recently The last protector, begins to show what it is working on now. While little has been seen of this mystery project so far, a new image of the game has recently been released.
On the official GenDesign website, the studio has updated the front page of the site with a new greeting wishing fans the best in 2021. However, the web page itself also features an image showing four of the games the studio has played on. The three titles mentioned above in Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, and The last protector were featured in the photo, with the fourth game shown being clearly the studio’s latest project.
As for what we can gather from this image of the new mystery game, there is not much to see. In terms of aesthetics, it seems to be very much in tune with what GenDesign has worked on in the past and has a bright color palette. We can also see a character appearing to be wearing some sort of poncho next to what could be a boulder. Water and grass also surround this character.
While GenDesign has not yet formally revealed what this new title will be, there are some important details we do know. Work on the project is said to have started as early as 2018. It was also announced last year that Epic Games would fund development of the game. GenDesign retains full control and ownership of the IP itself, while the profit is split 50/50 between the two parties.
It’s unknown when GenDesign’s latest game could arrive, but based on this agreement with Epic, it should come to different platforms. Despite previously releasing all of its games for PlayStation platforms only, it now sounds like Xbox and PC players can get into the action.
Hopefully this first banter from GenDesign to start the year means the studio wants to share more about the game in 2021. If it does, of course we’ll let you know here at ComicBook.com.
