San Antonio, surrounding areas are getting thousands of COVID-19 vaccines this week. This is where they go.

According to the state health department, 23,975 doses of the Moderna and Pfizer vaccine will be sent to Bexar County hospitals in the third week of COVID-19 vaccine allocations.

Bexar County hospitals that will receive the shipments include University Health System, Christ Children’s Hospital San Antonio and Christ Santa Rosa Medical Center, Methodist hospitals and the UT Health San Antonio clinic, Wellness 360. The vaccines will be reserved for priority populations.

Other nearby counties that receive vaccine doses include Dimmit, Gonzales, Kerr, Medina, and Wilson.

Health officials said vaccine allocation is likely to increase as supply grows with increased production and more vaccines being approved by the FDA.

Due to the currently limited supply of the vaccine, the vaccine is currently only administered to primary care health professionals, long-term care providers and residents, people over the age of 65 and those who are at least 16 years old with at least one underlying medical condition.

State health officials believe the vaccine will be offered to the general public from spring 2021.

The Texas Department of Health and Human Services keeps track of where the vaccine has been distributed and how many have been vaccinated so far through the online dashboard. Hundreds of similar facilities in the state are getting shipments, it turns out.

Vaccine distribution and administration data is collected by the state from each county and the dashboard is updated daily, although delays may occur depending on when the data is reported.

So far, vaccines have only been distributed to certain hospitals in the state, with priority given to primary care health workers who are regularly exposed to the virus.
