“Why don’t you support President Trump?” a woman who registers the senator says after walking to Romney while waiting at a gate in the airport terminal.

The Utah senator asked the woman to put on her mask to remind her that it is required by law before talking to her.

“I support him,” Romney replied, adding that he has supported many of the things Trump has done during his tenure.

The woman asks him if he will support Trump “in the fraudulent votes,” referring to the Congressional count of the Electoral College vote scheduled for Wednesday in Washington, to which Romney replies, “No, I am. not.”

“It’s a long story, but we have a constitution and the constitutional process is clear, and I will follow the constitution, and then I will explain all that when we meet in Congress,” Romney told the woman.

The woman then pressures Romney about his lack of support for Trump in the 2020 election, telling the Republican “you work for us.”

“I work for the people of Utah,” replies before he gathers his belongings and tries to run away from the woman who, along with another Trump supporter, continues to follow him.

A man, who was also recording Romney, berated him when he tried to leave, saying to him, “You’re a joke.”

A subsequent video shared by another Twitter user on the flight from Salt Lake to DC the same day shows Trump supporters yelling at Romney while on board the plane.

In the video, passengers chant “Traitor!” for a few seconds while some of them hold their phones up to record the interaction. One person yells at Romney to resign.

In the video some passengers can be seen without masks.

Trump has claimed without evidence that widespread voter fraud led to his loss and falsely claimed that Vice President Pence, while chairing Wednesday’s congressional proceedings, could invalidate or delay the certification of electoral college votes.

Romney has said he will vote to confirm Biden’s victory and has called the president’s allegations of voter fraud “reckless”.

Trump “is wrong in saying that the election was faked, corrupt and stolen,” Romney said in November, saying his contestation of the election result “is damaging the cause of freedom here and around the world … and recklessly fuels devastating and dangerous passions. ”

Several Republican senators have said they, too, will contest the election results, a move that would spark hours of debate in both chambers of Congress before the votes can be certified.

Thousands of people are expected to rally for Trump in Washington, DC, while Congress debates certification. Romney’s office did not respond to a request for comment.
