‘We consider this the best survival horror game to date’
Resident Evil Village has already done a good job of fueling the hype fires for the upcoming release. With a morally gray Chris Redfield, a terrifying new locale, a fan-pleasing demo and Lady Dimitrescu’s big ol ‘Ascot hat, fans are already frothing up for the latest installment of Capcom’s legendary horror franchise.
But to really send the fanbase in maximum overdrive you only need three words: Resident Evil Four
Capcom producer Peter Fabiano certainly had his marketing head in a recent interview with Official PlayStation Magazine. Fabiano didn’t just say that Resident Evil Village was in the process of becoming “the best Survival Horror game yet,” but the developer also noted that the new sequel drew a lot of influence and inspiration from 2005 Resident Evil 4, a title still considered the best by many fans Resident Evil release all time.
“You will notice that we have drawn a lot of inspiration from it Resident Evil 4“Fabiano told OPM.” The team has put an enormous amount of effort into creating a truly authentic feeling. There are plenty of surprises to keep you on your toes; players will find a balance between fighting, exploring and solving puzzles. “
It must be said that, visually, Resident Evil Village certainly looks more like the GameCube classic than any other title in the Returns canon. Drenched in sepia tones and buried in stark dead forest, the titular Village immediately recalls the Euro aesthetic of Resident Evil 4, and a similar atmosphere that has been out of step with the contemporary world for decades – as Ethan Winters literally walked into a dimension where technology, fashion and architecture did not progress after the 1800s.
Speaking of Mr. Winters, Fabiano also notes in the interview that the Resident Evil team became very attached to Ethan during the development of the acclaimed Resident Evil 7: BiohazardAs such, that decision was made VillageThe arc would continue the story of Ethan, his wife Mia, and the gruesome aftermath of their meeting with the Baker family. I think some guys really do can not take a break.
With next-gen power under the hood, the return of a grim Chris Redfield, the meme-riffic love affair with Lady Dimitrescu, ‘the best survival horror game yet’, and now calling on the unholy Resident Evil 4It could be argued that it was years ago that one Resident Evil release has aligned the moon and stars so effectively with regards to the marketing hype. I hope the game itself lives up to all this excitement when it launches on PS4, PS5, PC, Xbox One and Xbox Series X on May 7th.
