Registration for the COVID-19 vaccine on the Alamodome site is full in minutes

SAN ANTONIO – According to the city’s website, the registration to receive the COVID-19 vaccine on the Alamodome mass free COVID-19 vaccination site is currently full.

Registration opened Saturday at 9 a.m. to residents of Bexar County and others in one of the other 26 municipal districts. However, if you sign up and try to register for the vaccine, you will be notified that all spots have already been filled.

The 9,000 available slots for next week were seized within six minutes of opening registration, according to city officials. More than 11,000 people were on the city’s registration website when it opened at 9am

The website was also difficult to access, probably due to the number of residents trying to register at the same time.

Assistant City Manager Dr. However, Colleen Bridger said in a statement that the system didn’t actually crash when residents tried to register.

Although the pimples are filled for now, she said more doses are coming in.

“The agreements were full, the system did not crash. If the state of Texas sends us more vaccines, we will make more arrangements. There will be enough for everyone, it just takes time for the manufacturers to make / distribute the vaccine, ”said Dr. Bridger.

Only 1,500 eligible residents per day can receive the COVID-19 vaccine, and the vaccination clinic will officially open Monday. But city officials assured those unable to register that more vaccine doses are on the way in the coming weeks.

Those eligible to receive the vaccines include health professionals and residents of long-term care facilities known as Phase 1A and Phase 1B, which may include residents over the age of 65 or residents aged 16 and over with a chronic medical condition .

These chronic medical conditions include: cancer, chronic kidney disease, COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease), heart disease, solid organ transplantation, obesity and severe obesity, pregnancy, sickle cell disease and type 2 diabetes.

We’ve reached out to city officials for more insight into the vaccine registry, and we’ll bring more updates as they become available.
