Puerto Rico registers its second victory in the Caribbean Series

The Criollos of Puerto Rico had their second victory in the 2021 Caribbean Series with scoreboard 6-4 on the hosts Tomateros de México, in the Teodoro Mariscal Stadium in Mazatlán.

The Puerto Ricans were posted at the gates of qualifying for the second round last night and they took second place in the tournament with a 2-1 record, along with the Chiriquí Federals, representatives of Panama.

Short stop Edwin Díaz has scored three of the Criollos’ six races and he hit two with a homerun in the second inning. Meanwhile is the experienced pitcher Héctor Santiago took the victory with 6.1 innings in which it gave way to four races and seven unknowns.

The relay looked impressive again, with great management from Anthony Maldonado, Rayan González and Fernando Cruz, who scored his second save.

The Puerto Rican squad took the lead in the fifth inning, when Jarren Durán, with the scoring level on two rounds of the game, hit a triple that ejected Diaz’s lead. Then, Machín’s single brought in the fourth touchdown and Reymond Fuentes’ sacrifice fly produced the fifth line, scored by Yadier Molina.

In the seventh inning, the Tomateros sharpened the game with two touchdowns, a double by Jesús Fabela and a single by Sebastián Elizalde.

Puerto Rico was the first to score in the second inning, with homerun Diaz with a runner on base. In that same episode, Mexico responded and got two rounds to level the shock.

The Criollos have their fourth bet today, Wednesday. for the Barranquilla Caimans, representatives of Colombia. The match is scheduled for 6:00 pm (Puerto Rico time) and will be broadcast live on WAPA Deportes.
