OK officers charged with manslaughter for fatally shooting a 15-year-old boy

Five Oklahoma City police officers were charged with manslaughter on Wednesday in the deadly shooting of a 15-year-old boy last November.

Agents responding to reports of an attempted armed robbery at an Oklahoma grocery store shot Stavian Rodriguez 13 times on Nov. 23.

During the meeting outside the store, Rodriguez could be seen on surveillance footage obtained by local media dropping his gun.

He raises his hands and drops them before being shot.

Initially, an officer shot and hit Rodriguez with a “less lethal” weapon, police said.

With one hand in his pocket and another at his waist, five other officers then shoot “unnecessarily”[d] deadly rounds at Stavian Rodriguez, where he was hit multiple times and inflicted fatal injuries, ”an investigator from the Oklahoma City District Attorney’s office wrote in an affidavit.

The agents charged are: Bethany Sears, Jared Barton, Corey Adams, John Skuta and Brad Pemberton. They’ve been on administrative leave since the shooting.

The cop who fired the “less deadly” round was not charged.
