NBA officials explain why Sixers great man Dwight Howard was sent away

The Philadelphia 76ers are still shorthand on the big man’s spot right now. They still miss Joel Embiid as he continues to recover from a bone fracture he sustained on March 12 and due to trades, they only have one real centerpiece on the roster and that’s Dwight Howard.

The 17-year veteran was thrown out of Thursday’s win over the Los Angeles Lakers in the first quarter after making two technical errors and ire for Coach Doc Rivers. He played well against the Clippers on Saturday, but got back in with the officials in the fourth.

Howard picked up two quick techniques and he was then thrown for the second game in a row. He finished nine points and 11 rebounds in the loss against Los Angeles.

After that, NBA official Tony Brothers spoke to a pool reporter about why Howard was evicted:

He said something derogatory to the referee he spoke to about the referee who called the first technical foul.

That was the second technical foul, but what caused the first? Brothers then added:

The first technical was called, he was called for an offensive foul. On the next possession he ran all the way down to the calling referee and pointed to the calling referee and shouted at him and therefore the first technical foul was called.

It’s one more lesson we need to learn to keep a cool head when the going gets tough. The Sixers will now continue the road trip on Tuesday against the Denver Nuggets at Ball Arena.
