The former first lady was asked during a conversation with “Access Hollywood” about the fallout from Oprah Winfrey’s interview with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, which aired March 7 on CBS.
“I hope that when I think about what they are going through, I think about the importance of the family, and I just pray that there is forgiveness and that there is clarity, love and determination at some point,” Obama said.
“Because nothing is more important than family.”
Obama, interviewed by Meghan for the September issue of British Vogue, called the former “Suits” actor a friend and praised her as a “thoughtful leader who breaks the mold and makes our world a better place for it” in an Instagram post at the time.
The interview dominated international headlines last week and caused shock waves through Buckingham Palace. The royal institution was accused of being racist, allowing toxic behavior, and not protecting or even helping Meghan when she asked while going through a mental health crisis.
Harry said he felt he needed to distance himself from his family in order to maintain his own sanity, as well as that of his wife and son, Archie. Although he had hurt his father, Prince Charles, about the way his family was treated, he said he hoped their relationship could be restored.
‘But at the same time I will always love him, of course. But a lot of hurt has been done, and I will make it one of my priorities to try to heal that relationship, ”he said.
