A man was arrested in northern Mexico on charges of beating his three children to death for revenge on the mother, authorities said Sunday.
The Sonora State Attorney General’s office said on Sunday that the victims were 3, 7 and 8 years old. The murders took place on January 2 in Hidalgo state, central Mexico.
The detainee had called his father to tell him what he had done and reported him to the Hidalgo authorities, the prosecution said in a statement.
The subject had fled to Sonora, where he was held, and returned to Hidalgo to face the charges.
The prosecution said the man argued with the children’s mother and killed them “in order to cause her great pain.”
“Apparently in revenge on his wife, he killed his children,” said the prosecution.
