Man involved in deadly shooting in north Houston, shot by cop who responded to scene, police say

HOUSTON – A Houston police officer on Monday shot a man with guns after the man shot and killed a person and brandished a gun in a store, police said.

The shooting was reported at around 2:20 PM near the intersection of North Main and East 43rd Streets.

According to Houston Police Executive Assistant Chief Troy Finner, the man shot a person in the 8500 block of North Main Street before walking into a nearby supermarket and firing his gun.

Finner said an officer responded to the scene and the man started firing at the officer. He said the officer fired and hit the gunman. He said the officer was not injured and that the man had been taken to a hospital for treatment. He said the man was listed in critical condition.

Finner said investigators are trying to determine if the man knew the person who was shot and killed.

The man who was shot by the officer has not yet been identified.

Finner said the officer involved in the shooting has been given administrative duties, which is standard practice.
