SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg and Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff briefed the community on the local response to COVID-19 in their daily Saturday night briefing.
Nirenberg reported 159,519 total COVID-19 cases and 1,892 total deaths in Bexar County, an increase of 1,684 new cases as of Saturday. Today 18 new deaths have been reported.
The 7-day moving average of cases is 1,806.
City officials also reported that 1,375 patients have been hospitalized, 414 in intensive care and 252 on ventilators. 13% of the manned beds are available and 51% of the fans.
There were 174 hospital admissions in the past 24 hours, Nirenberg said.
Mayor Nirenberg also gave some assurance to San Antonians during the briefing, saying it is important for residents to remain patient and follow health guidelines as the city will receive more vaccines in the coming weeks.
Those who wish to schedule their second dose of their COVID-19 vaccine, or those who received their first dose at the Alamodome before Jan. 13, will be contacted by Metro Health. There is a 21-28 day window to receive the second dose.
“You can still get your dose later than that time frame, but we’ll work very hard to make sure everyone gets the dose within the prescribed time,” said Mayor Nirenberg.
Those who do not receive a call two days prior to their scheduled appointment should call 311 and choose option 8. They will then contact an operator who will verify their next appointment.
Those who received their first dose of COVID-19 from University Health of WellMed should have their second dose scheduled on the same day as their first appointment. If you haven’t scheduled your next appointment, you can find out more in our story below.
