Kyrie Irving could get in trouble for the NBA All-Star’s evasion of the media

Nets All-Star guard Kyrie Irving could face more NBA penalties after pulling out of his 11:10 AM Zoom call with the media on All-Star Sunday.

The media was informed during the 11:15 am phone call that Irving would not participate and he decided he would only talk after the game.

The 24 All-Stars were mandated to speak to the media late in the morning / early afternoon before the All-Star Game on Sunday, as they were allowed to show up on Saturday-evening instead of Friday.

The 28-year-old, seven-time All-Star was fined $ 25,000 by the NBA for failing to speak on the standard Media Day at the start of the training camp.

Irving posted on Instagram after being fined that he was tired of “someone else’s propaganda”, referring to the sports media. Rumors circulated that Irving wouldn’t be talking all season.

When the NBA fined Irving, it stated, “The fines result from Irving’s refusal to participate in the team’s media availability on several occasions this week.”

After the fine, Irving wrote in a statement that he hoped the fine’s money would support marginalized communities. Irving also added, “My goal this season is to let my work on and off the field speak for itself.”

Perhaps Irving was not ready to answer certain questions, such as what he thinks about the potential of adding former All-Star Blake Griffin to the roster. The Nets are considered favorites for the free-agent power forward after the Pistons buy his contract.
