It’s ‘unforgettable’, says Angelo, the youngest player to score in Libertadores

Attacker Angelo Gabriel Borges, of the Brazilian Santos, confirmed on Wednesday April 7, 2021 that he had an ‘unforgettable night’ in Argentina, after being the youngest player to score a goal in the Liberators cup.

“April 6, 2021, my first goal as a professional, becoming the youngest player to score in Libertadores history. Thank God for this achievement! The first will never be forgotten!” All the way right on their social media.

Angelo, as he is known Brazil, broke that sign of precocity in America’s top club league in Santos’s 1-3 win over San Lorenzo de Almagro ahead of the first leg of the Libertadores’ third qualifying round, played in Buenos Aires on Tuesday.

The Santos starting player jumped off the bench in the 84th minute and ten minutes later, in injury time, he scored his first goal with the first team to be practically judged for qualifying for the group stage.

Born on December 21, 2004, 193ngelo set a new record. Until yesterday and almost six decades, it was in the hands of the Argentinian Juan Carlos Cárdenas, of Racing, who scored a goal in 1962 with just 16 years, 7 months and 2 days, at Uruguayan citizen.

The new Menino da Vila climbed into Santos’ first team in 2020, the year Santos finished second in the Libertadores, but is starting to gain prominence this season under the Argentinian coach’s command. Ariel Holan.

193ngelo is the last pearl of the Santos factory, from which world stars such as Edson Arantes do Nascimento Pelé, Neymar, Robinho and more recently Rodrygo Goes, currently at Real Madrid, among others, such as Gabriel Barbosa Gabigol.

The São Paulo team’s powerful quarry, one of the best in America, has been the lifeblood of this centennial club of Brazil, who is experiencing a severe economic crisis in which debts with other clubs, legal disputes and delays in the payment of the wages.

Despite its delicate financial situation, the Santos, pushed by the new generations, managed to reach the final of the Libertadores 2020, where he also lost Brazilian Palmeiras with a goal conceded in the last minute.

Another young promise of the Albinegro team already starting to get into the lane of some of the major European football clubs is forward Kaio Jorge, 19 years old and U17 World Champion with the Brazilian team.
