Health workers trapped in the snow go car to car to give COVID-vax

These health workers kept it cool.

A medical team in Oregon took action after getting stuck in a snowstorm with COVID-19 vaccine doses about to expire – and used the shots to move from car to car to inject other stranded drivers.

The “makeshift clinic” took place after the 20 health workers stopped in traffic on snow-covered Highway 199 near Hayes Hill, Josephine County Public Health said Tuesday.

The group had just finished a massive coronavirus vaccination event at a local high school and had six doses left to administer at the end of the day.

Other recipients of the shots had been identified, but “the snow meant those doses wouldn’t make them until they expired,” the health department said on Facebook.

Not wanting them to be lost, staff walked from vehicle to vehicle, offering people the chance to get the vaccine, with an ambulance from the county for safety.

All six doses were administered, including to a Josephine County Sheriff’s Office employee who arrived late for the vaccination clinic and ended up stranded with the others.

Mike Weber, Josephine County’s Director of Health, said it was “one of the coolest surgeries” he was a part of.
