Gina Carano, a pioneer of women’s mixed martial arts, was recently pulled from the Star Wars series The Mandalorian and any future Lucasfilm productions. Carano’s character, bounty hunter Cara Dune, was a main character on the Disney + award-winning show.
Carano was let go by Lucasfilm, as well as UTA, the talent agency that represented her after a controversial social media post that was later removed.
The post Carano wrote on Twitter read, “Jews were beaten in the street, not by Nazi soldiers but by their neighbors… even by children. Because history is being edited, most people today don’t realize that in order to get to the point where Nazi soldiers could easily gather thousands of Jews together, the government first made their own neighbors hate them simply because they were Jews. How is that different from hating someone because of their political views. ”
The hashtag #FireGinaCarano quickly started trending and did so on Twitter for hours before being subsequently dropped by Lucasfilm and UTA.
Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her in the future. Nonetheless, her social media posts disparaging people based on their cultural and religious identities are repugnant and unacceptable, ”a Lucasfilm spokesman said in a statement.
Gina Carano issues a statement after being hired by a conservative website
Within days of his release, Carano issued a statement of decision after being picked up by the conservative website The daily thread, for whom she will develop and produce her own film.
The daily thread helps to make one of my dreams – to develop and produce my own film – come true. I cried out and my prayer was answered, ”Carano told Deadline.
She used her recruitment by The Daily Wire to go ahead with a statement of determination to other people who think they could be ‘canceled’.
“I am sending a direct message of hope to all who live in fear of cancellation by the totalitarian crowd. I’ve only just started using my voice, which is now freer than ever before, and I hope it inspires others to do the same. They cannot cancel us if we do not allow them. ”
“We couldn’t be more excited to partner with Gina Carano, an incredible talent dumped by Disney and Lucasfilm for insulting the authoritarian Hollywood Left,” The Daily Wire co-founder Ben Shapiro told Deadline.
“This is what Daily Wire exists: to provide an alternative, not only for consumers, but also for makers who refuse to bow to the mafia.”
UFC’s Dana White says Gina Carano needs to rest
A former Strikeforce and EliteXC fighter, Carano not only got the support of Shapiro and The Daily Wire, she also got the backing of UFC President Dana White.
When asked about the cancellation of Carano by Disney and Lucasfilm, White told MMAWeekly.com during a UFC 258 scrum, “Leave Gina alone. We all make mistakes.”
Neither Carano nor The Daily Wire have released specific details about the new partnership with the former fighter.
