Fortnite brings back controversial feature with a twist

Fortnite Season 5, just in time for Christmas, has brought in a controversial feature, and at this point it’s unclear why or how long it will be back. If you haven’t picked up the Battle Royale game on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, PC, Nintendo Switch, or mobile devices in the past two days, Epic Games has added planes back to the game, but with a controversial twist that players are not in love with.

Aircraft themselves are quite controversial. The last time they were in the game, before the launch of Chapter Two, some players loved them and expected their possible return, but many players hated them and hoped they would be gone for good. That said, they are back, but with a tweak that has created division among the players, happy to return at all.

On Twitter, prominent Fortnite dataminer and leaker, FortTory, not only revealed planes in action, but revealed that they now have fuel tanks, bringing a whole new dynamic to their use. The last time they were deployed, they didn’t have fuel tanks, so it’s unclear why Epic Games made this change, but then again, it’s also unclear why planes are back at all. The answer to the first question may be to make sure they aren’t in the last circle, which was a big criticism of their earlier implementation, but this is just speculation for now.

As hinted, the return of airplanes has re-created the Fortnite community divided. Some players are not happy to see them again, while others are, although some of these players are disappointed that they now have a fuel tank.

Fortnite is available for free on the PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, PC, Nintendo Switch and mobile devices. Click here for more information about the popular and free to play game.
