Former Senator Carlos Rodríguez Mateo is appointed to lead AMSSCA

Health Minister Carlos Mellado announced on Friday the appointment of Carlos Rodríguez Mateo as the new head of the administration of the services for mental health and anti-addiction treatment (ASSMCA).

Rodríguez Mateo was rejected by the citizens as he pursued another term as senator through accumulation for the past four years. According to the results of the state election commission, he came in sixteenth place out of 17 candidates.

The Governor of Puerto Rico has appointed Dr. Rodríguez Mateo recommended to lead the efforts of ASSMCA. Rodríguez Mateo is a physician by profession and holds a master’s degree in public health, strategic governance, public administration and management and political decision-making. In addition, as a senator, he has studied and legally enacted initiatives to address issues related to ASSMCA, such as the problem of suicides, high methadone use and narcotics abuse, ”Mellado said in written statements.

Rodríguez Mateo was also Mayor of Salinas and founded Primary Services Centers with other doctors WITHCertainly.

ASSMCA is an agency affiliated with the Ministry of Health, established by Law 67 of August 7, 1993, and is responsible for programs and services related to mental health, drug addiction and alcoholism.
