Five of the six children killed in the Oklahoma shooting

Six people were shot in a home in Oklahoma early Tuesday, including five young children, and a suspect in the murders was taken into custody, police said. Officers responded to a call from several people who had been shot at a house in Muskogee, a town of just under 40,000 people about 45 miles southeast of Tulsa, at around 1:30 a.m., police said in a statement.

Once there, agents ran into a person with a gun, according to the statement. An officer fired at the suspect and missed as the suspect walked away from the scene but was later taken into custody.

Officers at the scene found a man and four children dead, and a fifth child died in a hospital in Tulsa, police said.

Police officer Lynn Hamlin of Muskogee described the murdered youth as “little children,” but said the police have no exact age yet. She said authorities have no motive yet, but do not believe other suspects are involved.

“We don’t believe it’s arbitrary, but we just don’t have any details about why or what happened yet,” Hamlin said.

One woman was also taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries, she said.

Authorities have not released the name of the arrested person or additional details about the people who died. Police would release more information later Tuesday.
