Dominicana, Águilas, Fermín and Canó write history

MAZATLÁN – In the end, MLB’s biggest stars Robinson Canó and Yadier Molina embraced emotional congratulations as the Dominican Republic won the Caribbean Series title by beating Puerto Rico 4-1 on Saturday-evening.

Canó played a Caribbean Series for the first time and after winning the World Classic and Major League Baseball World Series in recent years, he added another crown to his record.

“Another great achievement for the Dominican team, we got it in the Clásico (World Cup), a great honor for me, a pride to be in another thanks to God, it’s something I really can’t describe,” Canó said during the celebration.

“What more can I ask of God,” he added that he held World Series and Caribbean Series titles on his first appearance.

The Aguilas Cibaeñas gave the Dominican Republic the 21st crown by beating the Criollos at the Teodoro Mariscal Stadium, in a thrilling game decided in the second half that ended the 2021 Mazatlán Caribbean Series.

The MVP of the event was Dominican outfielder Juan Lagares, who drove in one run in the Final and had eight in the series and hit a pair of homeruns.

“Super happy, thank goodness, great win, we’ve completed our job,” he stressed that he was the first team to win the Latin American Small World Series Championship with an unbeaten record of 7-0, giving the Dominican Republic the two-time championship. .

The Águilas Cibaeñas manager recognizes the performance of his players.

Manager Félix Fermín also made history by reaffirming himself as the helmsman with the most championships by reaching four. He set the record for the most wins by reaching 28 and is also the first to lead a team to the title with a 7-0 record.

“It is not easy to achieve this performance,” said Fermín. “Blessed by God, I have kept my health and the truth that I had a great team,” he added.

Next year, the Dominican Republic will defend the crown and will have the opportunity to claim the triple championship domestically, as they will be the organizers of the 2021 Caribbean Series.
