According to former NBA player Stephen Jackson, Brooklyn Nets security guard Kyrie Irving bought a house for George Floyd’s family.
Jackson, who was a close friend of the late Floyd, revealed on the podcast “The Rematch” that Irving, along with other celebrities, had reached out to help Floyd’s family.
Kyrie Irving bought them a house. Lil Wayne’s manager bought them a Mercedes-Benz. Barbra Streisand gave them shares in Disney, ”Jackson said.
Irving’s gesture was made five to six months ago, a source close to the observatory confirmed to Marc J. Spears of The Undefeated.
Floyd, a black man, died in Minneapolis in May while in police custody after a white officer knelt around Floyd’s neck for more than seven minutes. His death sparked a wave of protests across the country.
Irving has been active in the field of social justice out of court.
In July, he committed $ 1.5 million to supplement the income of WNBA players who chose not to play the 2020 season in their bubble, either because of coronavirus concerns or social justice reasons.
Last week, while not with the team, Irving appeared on a Zoom call with others who showed support for a candidate district attorney’s campaign in Manhattan.
Irving has missed seven consecutive games due to a combination of personal reasons, NBA mandatory quarantine, and an increase in basketball activity prior to his return. He has averaged 27.1 points, 5.3 rebounds and 6.1 assists in seven games this season for Brooklyn.
