Alabama man allegedly linked to Oath Keepers has been arrested for alleged participation in the Capitol riot

A 33-year-old Alabama man with reported links to far-right militias, the Oath Keepers, was arrested Tuesday for his alleged role in the Capitol uprising, according to court documents.

Joshua James, of Arab, Ala., Was charged with obstruction of official proceeding and complicity, as well as trespassing on restricted buildings or grounds.

“James and other Oath Keepers stormed the Capitol, ending the Electoral College’s certification of vote,” the complaint said.

James is described in the document as dressed in military gear adorned with an Oath Keepers patch, indicating his affiliation with the group. Photos and videos taken after the storming of the Capitol also show James with a group of Oath Keepers.

Publicly available video shows that, after storming the Capitol, James came along with accused and unaccused individuals affiliated with the Oath Keepers, many of them had stormed the Capitol too, and some of whom James had acted all along January 5 and 6, 2021 ‘, is the complaint.

Phone records obtained through a search warrant also reportedly placed James in the Capitol at the time of the riot. The same records show that he had been in contact with other Oath Keepers, many of whom were charged last month.

The Oath Keepers is one of the groups under investigation for their conspiracy to stop the January 6 election certification.
