According to reports, a lawyer for former President Donald Trump has withdrawn his already-granted request to interrupt impeachment proceedings during the Jewish Sabbath.
Trump impeachment attorney David Schoen, an observant Jew, sent a letter to Senate leaders Monday to reverse course, requesting that the trial continue on Friday evening and Saturday to avoid delays, according to Fox News reporter Chad Pergram.
Shoe, in the letter which was obtained by Pergram, noted that he “will not participate during the Sabbath; but the part I would have played will be completely covered to the satisfaction of the defense. “
His first request was granted by Senate leaders, who announced Monday that the impeachment trial would be suspended at 5:00 p.m. Friday and would meet again on Sunday.
It was not immediately clear whether Schoen’s withdrawal would lead to a change in the deposition schedule, which begins Tuesday afternoon with arguments about its constitutionality.
