Opening of WandaVision teases classic Marvel comic, Jessica Jones character

After being out of the spotlight for a year and a half, Marvel Studios returned with a blast on Friday when the studio finally released the first two episodes of WandaVision to the masses. In an instant, the series became the talk of social media as fans joined the discourse and discussed the various mysteries the series opened up. Fortunately for fans, the series is also full of Easter eggs; there is the nod to the Grim Reaper in one shot, or the fact that one of the shots shows a reference shot of Wonder Man. Now fans have seen an Easter egg, one of Marvel’s oldest characters – one that also managed to make an appearance Jessica Jones at a given moment.

Minor spoilers for the first two episodes of WandaVision. Be careful if you haven’t seen the show yet!

Just as Kevin Feige and his team have teased, WandaVision is a tribute to the sitcoms of yesteryear – a tribute to mid-century shows like I Love Lucy, The Dick Van Dyke Show, and Enchanted. In fact, it’s a nod to one of those shows where an Easter egg from The Whizzer can be found. In the opening titles for “Episode 2,” which happens to be modeled after the intro for Enchanted, fans have noticed that a small Whizzer statue can be seen on a side table next to the sofa where Wanda and Vision sit.

At one point in Marvel lore, Robert Frank – the original Whizzer – was portrayed as the father of Wanda and Pietro Maximoff. But soon enough, like many other origins in comics, that was rebuilt and changed – but someone at Marvel Studios hasn’t forgotten.

A version of the character also appeared in season two of Jessica Jones, played by Jay Klaitz. In the series, Jones assumed Robert Coleman was a paranoid lunatic when, in fact, he had been experimented with by IGH. Those experiments gave him super speed, something Jones soon discovered.

The first two episodes of WandaVision now streaming on Disney + while all three seasons of Jessica Jones can be prayed on Netflix.
