Apparently a new malfunction has been discovered in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and it is linked to the latest DLC fighter Sephiroth.
Under the right conditions, the one-winged angel hatches Final Fantasy VII can break another character’s Final Smash (and the animation of each move for that matter) – drastically reducing the damage from the normally devastating attack and changing the visual effects from time to time.
To activate this unique glitch, Sephiroth must defeat one of Pokémon Trainer’s pocket monsters with his Shadow Flare attack. After this, the opponent’s Final Smash attacks will do little to nothing in terms of damage.
Here’s a closer look, courtesy of a Nintendo Unity YouTube video:
“Let’s see how another breakdown can cause Sephiroth to absolutely break every Final Smash in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.”
Again, this glitch requires some unique conditions to trigger – so you probably won’t encounter it in standard matches.
While we’re sure it will be resolved by Masahiro Sakurai and his team at some point, it shouldn’t affect the competitive side of the game – as Final Smash isn’t commonly used in tournament play.
