SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg and Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff briefed the community on the local response to COVID-19 and the winter weather in their Saturday night briefing.

Mayor Nirenberg first reported some data received all week on coronavirus cases in Bexar County. Nirenberg reported 107 cases of coronavirus and seven deaths on Saturday.

There were 62 hospitalizations in the past 24 hours, Nirenberg said.

CPS energy

Nirenberg said CPS Energy is nearly done restoring power to the San Antonio area. All but 40 customers have restored power since Saturday evening.

Although, CPS Energy officials said a vehicle crashed into a utility pole last night, leaving 1,630 customers living near Cupples Road and Menefee Boulevard without power, but those customers have since restored their power, Nirenberg reiterated.

The energy company is now working to slow down the customer billing process to mitigate the impact of this week’s winter weather.

Customers are urged not to worry about their bills at this time and service will not be interrupted if they are unable to pay at this time. Click here for more information.

San Antonio water system

Robert Puente, CEO of San Antonio Water System, announced at the briefing Saturday that parts of San Antonio are now exempt from the boiling water notice. This means that they no longer need to boil water before consuming it. Click here to learn more about which areas are no longer under the cooking warning.

Customers still boiling may not be short of water, but lack of pressure. Puente estimates that most of these problems will be resolved by Monday.

Still 10%, or 9% of the San Antonio area has no water, according to SAWS, but the crew is still working on restoration work.
