SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg briefed the community on the local response to COVID-19 and the aftermath of the winter weather in a briefing on Sunday evening.
Mayor Nirenberg reported some data received on coronavirus cases in Bexar County. Nirenberg reported 77 cases of coronavirus on Saturday and no new deaths. However, the low case numbers can be attributed to the lack of state data due to last week’s winter storm.
The mayor also reported that 595 patients have been hospitalized, 20 fewer than Saturday, 232 in intensive care and 137 on ventilators.
There were 82 hospitalizations in the past 24 hours, Nirenberg said.

CPS energy
According to Mayor Nirenberg, all but 14 households have received energy recovery.
For customers concerned about their next utility bill, Nirenberg said the energy company has suspended autopay for all customers at this point.
Customers do not have to call to pay their bill. However, if your automatic payment payment has already been processed, call CPS Energy at 210-353-2222.
San Antonio water system
Robert Puente, CEO of San Antonio Water System, announced at the briefing on Sunday that 100% of the surface contains water.
As of about 6pm, Puente said that more than 80% of the city is no longer under boiling water. This means that customers approved for the notification no longer need to boil water before consumption.
Those still under the boiling water warning are expected to be cleared Monday, Puente said.
