Zwaan in mourning brings German trains to a stop

It was a cygnet error.

Heartbroken in mourning for his late partner recently brought trains to a standstill for nearly an hour on a high-speed line in central Germany, according to reports.

The sad swan refused to leave orbit for 50 minutes on Dec. 23 after his companion flew into the overhead electrical line and died, the Guardian said.

According to Agence France-Presse, swans usually mate for life, which makes the death of the partner all the more crushing.

The grieving fowl “sat beside the body in mourning, resisting attempts by officials to lure it away,” the French telegraphic service said. As a result, 23 trains were delayed.

Firefighters eventually caught the bird and released it into the Fulda River.
