The Association of Journalists of El Salvador condemns the harassment and defamation of which the radio journalist has been victimized by members and the New Ideas nominee for the mayor of Santa Tecla
Manuel Pacheco, a longtime journalist for Radio YSKL, denounced being the victim of harassment and defamation by the candidate for mayor of Santa Tecla for New Ideas, Henry Flores, and other militants of the ruling party.
Pacheco said that on Saturday, when he came to cover a conversion event, two female members of Nuevas Ideas came to him to take pictures with cameras and cell phones and began prosecuting him, intending to prevent him from doing his job. to do. .
“I arrived today to report on the New Ideas event, in the town of Santa Tecla… The two young women saw me immediately, went out to meet me and started taking pictures and videos of me. They didn’t stop taking pictures of me, I felt harassed, ”said the journalist.

After a few minutes, he said, they did not stop photographing him and he approached one of them and asked her not to take pictures of him. The women paused, but then continued to harass him.
A few hours later, Nueva Ideas’ nominee for Mayor of Santa Tecla, Henry Flores, who did not witness the intimidation of his party’s militants against the journalist, gave a different version of the events and made serious charges against Pacheco.
The journalist points out that Flores did not witness all of the “harassment” and “aggressiveness” with which the two women acted against him and how they hindered his journalistic work in the first place. As if that were not enough, Flores posted several photos of Pacheco on social networks, claiming that he works for a party and that he “threatened” a woman on the official team.
The president of the Association of Journalists of El Salvador (APES), Angélica Cárcamo, stated that the union had investigated and adopted the journalist’s story, expressing concern over these events.
“We are concerned that a political party candidate is determined to impeach a journalist without having evidence that the journalist has accused two of his supporters; if there is no evidence, it is slander and a crime, ”he warned.
