YouTube Music again tests a ‘2020 Year in Review’

While the New Year is well into the year, YouTube Music seems to be making another effort to give users a 2020 Year in Review. Hopefully this iteration will be rolled out widely.

The Google streaming service was first spotted testing a ‘Year in Review’ playlist of your top songs in November. It was rolled out widely in early December with other genre compilations. A week later some users got a “Your 2020 music journey” with some statistics.

Sent via email, this is what subscribers really wanted from YouTube Music. However, this competitor to Spotify Wrapped and Apple Music Replay hasn’t been widely rolled out, especially when January ended and February started.

Some YouTube Music members will now see an ‘Annual Review’ in the Android app. While live, you can tap your profile avatar in the top right corner to find the rewind icon in the account menu between ‘History’ and ‘Paid memberships’.

This ‘Annual Review 2020’ is a kind of mini Home feed with four arranged carousels. The “My 2020 Year in Review” playlist takes center stage, while Google notes how many hours you listened and the number of songs played for individual songs.

  • My best playlists
  • My top songs
  • My top albums
  • My top artists

In terms of information, it roughly matches the email some customers received late last year, but it lacks some aggregated metrics, including the number of songs you’ve listened to, total hours, and the month you’ve listened the most. That said, it offers a much more interactive experience and is ideal for sharing via screenshots.

Like the first summary, this 2020 review is not being rolled out widely at the moment, but YouTube Music is likely taking this approach rather than continuing with the emails.
