YouTube bans German channels that spread false information about viruses

BERLIN (AP) – Google says it has banned a prominent German user from its YouTube video platform who repeatedly posted false claims about the coronavirus outbreak.

Google said Friday that a YouTube channel known as KenFM was no longer available and that the person running it should not start another.

“We have a long-standing Community Guidelines policy that issues warnings when our systems are notified of a policy violation of YouTube’s conduct rules,” the company said in a statement.

“Videos on the KenFM channel violated our COVID-19 policy and the channel was removed from YouTube after receiving the third 90-day video warning on Nov. 19, 2020,” he said.

KenFM was managed by Ken Jebsen, a former journalist fired by the German public broadcaster RBB after anti-Semitic comments came to light.

YouTube and others have vowed to tackle the spread of coronavirus misinformation by users of their sites.
