Young Salvadoran Red Cross volunteer was killed on the way to Quezaltepeque | News from El Salvador

According to information from the authorities, the young man and another colleague were attacked with a firearm.

Ángel David Bonilla Escobar, 20, died on Sunday night after being attacked with a firearm on the way to Quezaltepeque, according to information from the National Civil Police (PNC).

The young man was a volunteer for the Salvadoran Red Cross section of Usulután, and for several years worked as a lifeguard at the institution.

Escobar lived in the El Molino neighborhood of Usulután, currently in his second year of high school. A spokesperson for the institution noted that he was studying and working.

“He had skills, he was a very good athlete, well qualified and they had a spirit of service,” he said.

Preliminary information on the case shows that the young man was working on a truck that transported the food parcels the government delivered when he was the victim of the armed attack. According to the report, the warning of gunfire in the area was received at 10:20 PM.

The truck driver, identified as Norberto Antonio Ávalos Beltrán, 32, was also injured in the incident.

According to the report, the victims were assisted by a patrol from the Apopa delegation, but Escobar had already died.

The scene was located at kilometer 35 1/2 between the Texaco Versalles gas station, the main entrance to the canton of Chanmico.
