You will have to play Marvel’s Avengers a bit longer to level up

New update to tweak XP and loot mechanics

Developer Crystal Dynamics and publisher Square Enix have announced a new update to their comic book epic Marvel’s AvengersThe new patch comes out on March 18 and slows down the amount of XP delivered to the player, slowing down the progress of each individual character and making Avengers a bit longer to assemble.

In a statement on its official blog, Crystal Dynamics stated that the reason behind this move was to prevent players from being inundated with skill points and attributes early in a character’s build. Slowing down the leveling process gives players the chance to explore a hero’s skills and abilities at a more relaxed pace, rather than overwhelming them with, hypothetically, a choice of six new moves after a single boss fight.

“In most RPGs, the amount of XP you need to level up increases as you gain levels in a curve, but our system is a straight line. rewarded quickly, which can be confusing and overwhelming for newer players. We want any decision to invest in a skill or Heroic to be more meaningful ”.

This way of thinking is doing kind of makes sense – slowing down the flow of skills and abilities will encourage further character build experimentation. But the problem here is people who to have dedicated time to play Marvel’s Avengers will now be in the groove of the title’s “stream”. Making a major change of pace late in the day risks irritating the dedicated player base, of which Marvel’s Avengers‘is already smaller than Square Enix would have liked. All of the positives of this update will probably suit anyone relaunching the game better – perhaps with the upcoming PS5 and Xbox Series X release – but whether a new community of players exists is an entirely different matter.

In a strange bit of double talk, the statement also suggests that players who want to quickly maximize their level 50 heroes hurry up and do so before the update drops, implying that the current XP speed is the adopted meta for the game, and only serves to make the incoming change appear all the more intrusive to the game’s community.

In addition, the new update also makes changes Marvel’s Avengers loot system. As explained by Crystal Dynamics, players will no longer receive random cosmetic drops through methods such as leveling, completing missions, and opening safes. Instead, certain rare items will be offered for sale with Units directly from the in-game supplier, Chastity McBryde. Chastity’s store will be reworked to accommodate this. Crystal Dynamics hopes this will give players more freedom of choice in the rewards they earn.
