You can now report accidents and speed cameras using Apple Maps

Features known to the Waze audience are coming soon Apple Maps.

Available now to active developers and public beta users iOS 14.5, and roll out to all users laterThanks to the new functions, passengers and drivers can easily report a speed trap, an accident or any other danger they encounter while driving. Since the feature is meant to be hands-free for those behind the wheel, users can notify Siri of the incident with a voice command on their iPhone or, if supported, with CarPlay.

To ask the assistant, simply say “Hey Siri, report …” followed by the event, be it an accident, hazard, voice control, speed camera, or just “incident”. Beta users who have the feature can also say things like, “There’s a crash ahead, “or, “There’s a mobile speed camera. Siri will also be able to understand commands such as ‘the danger is gone’ or ‘clear the accident’, and users can also tell Siri things like ‘the accident is still there’.

In addition to the reporting features, Apple Maps is also getting a few other changes. Apple has added bike routes for Portland and San Diego that show users routes with bike-friendly streets, bike lanes, and designated bike lanes. (These features are also currently available for Los Angeles, San Francisco and New York City.The tool allows riders to check for things like heights and crowded areas, and Siri can navigate your bike route on an iPhone, Apple Watch, or with AirPods.

Finally, the company continues to be Guides in Maps, which offer tips on where to hike, eat, shop, and adventure. Apple says Maps now includes more than 500 of these curated guides, but they are automatically updated with new ones every week.
