Do you remember Battleborn? Gearbox’s answer to Overwatch was a similar hero shooter with flamboyant characters, but it didn’t work out the same way. At launch in 2016, it received fairly positive reviews, but it didn’t have much of an impact with consumers, and publisher 2K Games couldn’t muster any real enthusiasm.
The game was kept alive with updates until about a year later, and it was withdrawn from digital stores in 2019. Since then things have been slowly winding down to eventual server outage. Yesterday (January 31, 2021) was the last day you could log in and play Battleborn. Now that online support is officially over, this is a game that has been lost in time. It is no longer playable in any capacity.
It’s a sad story, but unfortunately not every game can capture the moment like Overwatch or Fortnite. The upside is that Gearbox has had a lot more success with Borderlands 3 lately, so we’re sure it’s not too sad about this. Forward and upward.
