Tijuana, BC. – Actor José María Yazpik said he was close to Narco in Tijuana as a teenager, bringing it up as part of his participation in the second season of “Narcos: Mexico” which premieres February 15 on A&E.
“Fortunately, I have been indirectly associated with the world of drug trafficking, because Tijuana was a very closed society in the 1980s, and drug traffickers were part of that society,” Yazpik said.
In an interview via Zoom, who brings Amado Carrillo Fuentes to life, “The Lord of the Skies” said that he met Ramón Arellano Félix because he would appear at parties he attended from time to time.
“I had several very close frictions with certain members of the Arellano family, I even went to school with some narco juniors and went to parties that Ramón Arellano suddenly came to,” he said.
Yazpik, who lived in Tijuana for a phase of his life, clarified that it wasn’t that they talked about drugs all day or that they were violent, they were just partners, nothing more.
“ All those people or the vast majority are already dead or in prison, one of my friends that I went to school with recently got out of jail, and I, it’s not that I took with them, but it was part of the scope of the group, who you lived with in the same neighborhood, you went to the same club, the same school, you went in the evenings, you saw them turn, well that was the relationship, ” the 50-year-old explained old actor.
He emphasized that the memory of that time helped him from these experiences to get that sensory back and make him better understand his character and understand him as a human being without glorifying him.
“This series differs from others who have touched on this issue in that they don’t glorify themselves, all or most of them end up in prison or death, they all get the punishment they deserve or don’t, and from there that glorification is no longer given” , He pointed.
He goes with Diego Luna and said that the biggest challenge in life for Carrillo was to make him credible, as there isn’t much information, and to try to sympathize with a character who has done a lot of damage.
“Living in a country so brutally affected by drug trafficking is especially complicated,” says the actor who shares credits with Diego Luna as Miguel Ángel Félix Gallardo.
Even if it is a fictional story, it contains real life data, which you are fortunate or unfortunately, depending on how it looks, in favor of this project.
“It’s a painful topic, but it’s important to talk about it, it’s important to start a conversation. Unfortunately, we are immersed in drug trafficking in several Latin American countries, it is important not to glorify them, ”he concluded.
The Netflix series will be broadcast on the A&E screen in its second season, this story also features Marian Trevino, Fernando Urrejola and Mayra Hermosillo, the latter giving life to Enedina Arellano Félix, they were all in the virtual conference.
