STATE NUMBERS

The Arizona Department of Health Services reported 2,426 additional COVID-19 cases and 172 deaths, according to a release.

Those totals bring the Arizona pandemic totals to 793,532 cases and 14,834 deaths.

The number of COVID-19 patients admitted continued to decline, with 2,396 hospital beds on Thursday, Feb. 11, compared to the pandemic peak of 5,082 on Jan. 11, according to the state’s coronavirus dashboard.

Seven-day moving averages of daily new cases and daily deaths have declined over the past two weeks, according to data from The COVID Tracking Project.

The moving average of daily new cases decreased from 6,184.3 on January 28 to 2,758.6 on Thursday, while the moving average of daily deaths over the same period decreased from 149.6 to 130.

The rate of infections is believed to be much higher than reported because many people have not been tested and studies suggest that people can be infected with the virus without feeling ill.

VACCINE

COVID-19 vaccinations will help protect you against COVID-19. You may experience some side effects, which are normal signs that your body is building up protection. These side effects can affect your ability to perform daily activities, but according to YCCHS spokesman Terri Farneti, they should go away in a few days.

SIDE EFFECTS

The arm where you received the injection may experience pain and swelling. In the rest of your body, a person receiving the vaccine may develop a fever, chills, fatigue, and headaches.

When should you call the doctor? In most cases, discomfort from fever or pain is normal. But just in case, here are two things to watch out for:

-If the redness or tenderness where you received the injection increases after 24 hours

-If your side effects are worrying or don’t seem to go away after a few days.

Some people experience more serious side effects after the second dose. The Moderna and Pfizer vaccines are given in two doses approximately 28 and 21 days apart, respectively.

According to a Jan. 27 CDC update, more users of V-safe, the CDC’s tool to report vaccine side effects, reported side effects within a week of getting their second injection compared to the first.
