ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Gio Urshela was placed on the COVID injury list due to side effects from the vaccination, the Yankees announced Friday.
The third baseman was initially in the line-up, but was scratched and replaced by Tyler Wade. DJ LeMahieu slipped to third base and Wade started at second base.
Many members of the Yankees traveling party – players, coaches and staff – were vaccinated on Wednesday, both before and after the game.
Mike Ford, who was already on the cab squad and with the team for their series against the Rays at Tropicana Field, was officially recalled from the alternate venue.
