Xbox One game unexpectedly canceled two months before release

An upcoming Xbox One game was unexpectedly canceled two months before release and has raised questions about censorship on the platform in the process. This week, developer Inti Creates announced that the Xbox One version of its obscene game, Gal Gun returns, has been canned for inscrutable reasons. In the statement, the developer notes that development of the game on Xbox One is complete and the master ROM is currently under review, but after discussions with Microsoft, it has been decided not to just stop this progress, but to discard it altogether, and that’s not really clear why, but the developer is seemingly hinting at a matter of censorship.

According to Inti Creates, it “wouldn’t be able to guarantee a consistent experience across all platforms” if it released the game on Xbox One, which is why this version is being canned. Again, not a direct reference to censorship, but the language used certainly suggests that this is at the heart of the problem.

“Today we would like to announce that we will no longer be releasing Gal Gun Returns on the Xbox family of consoles,” the statement read. “As a remaster of the original Gal Gun, we wanted to make sure we stayed true to the spirit of the first entry in the Gal Gun series, and while development of the Xbox version was complete and the master ROM was revised, Na After a productive discussion with Microsoft, it became clear that we would not be able to ensure a consistent experience across all platforms, and as a result we decided to refocus on Nintendo Switch and PC for the upcoming release of Gal Gun returns. We understand the disappointment of everyone who was looking forward to playing the game on Xbox One and thank everyone for their continued support. We sincerely apologize for this change to the planned release. We hope you enjoy the Gal Gun experience on other platforms. We look forward to continuing to work with Microsoft on other PQube releases in the future. “

While the Xbox One version of the game is being canceled, the developer notes that the Nintendo Switch version is still scheduled for January 28, 2021 in Japan and a month later, on February 12 in North America and Europe, alongside PC -version.

At the time of publishing, Inti Create has not added anything to the above statement in any way. Meanwhile, Microsoft has said zero on the matter.
