After launch of the FPS Boost feature in February With a handful of games, Microsoft has announced that five more games, all from Bethesda, will be getting FPS Boost support soon.
This news comes from the last episode of The Official Xbox PodcastIn the opening section, Larry “Major Nelson” Hryb of Xbox Live and Jeff Rubenstein, senior communications manager at Xbox, discussed Microsoft’s recent acquisition of Bethesda. To celebrate the deal, a lot new Bethesda games have been added to Game PassBut what excited me more is that five Bethesda games on the service will soon be getting FPS Boost support, a feature that will allow older games to run at higher frame rates on the Xbox Series X and Series S.
The five games in question are Fallout 4, Fallout 76, Prey, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition, and Dishonored: Definitive Edition.
Something interesting, if you care about this stuff, is that Fallout 4 was one of the very first games we saw with FPS Boost before the new position had an official name. In a short video provided without much context last October, Microsoft presented Fallout 4 runs at 60 frames per second. While Xbox players were already able to use the game’s mod support to achieve similar performance improvements, it will finally be an official feature soon.
The podcast did not give a specific date for when to expect this latest series of games to receive FPS Boost support. It sounds like it can happen when the next major Xbox Series X / S update rolls out, adding settings on a per-game basis, allowing players to toggle Auto HDR and FPS Boost for games that support it.

I recently reviewed FPS Boost and came away largely impressedIt made older games feel more modern and playable without the need for additional mods or downloads. I am excited to see such a thing Fallout 76 works with FPS Boost as performance on consoles is notoriously poor. But now that Fallout 76 is pretty good, it would be great to see it work better on the next generation of Xbox consoles.
