Spanish coach Xavi Hernández won his fourth title as coach of Al Sadd, where his fellow countryman Santi Cazorla also plays, by beating Al Arabi (2-1), in the Emir’s Cup Final played at the Jassim Bin Hamad stadium in Doha.
Two goals from Algerian striker Baghdad Bounedjah secured victory for Xavi’s team, which brings together this title, the second in the Emir’s Cup after last year, with the trophies of the Qatar Super Cup and the Ooredoo Cup, a tournament of qualifying matches in which only the teams of the highest Qatari category compete.
All goals in the clash came in the first half. Al Sadd took the lead after three minutes, in an action that started with a shot by Cazorla that ended in the shoes of Bounedjah, who carried the ball into the net.
Twenty later he equaled Al Arabi, where Spaniard Marc Muniesa plays, thanks to Icelandic Aron Gunnarsson, but on the brink of halftime, the Algerian striker scored again. It was his second goal and the goal of Xavi’s team’s triumph, holding the income to the end to seal the title.
The Spanish coach already won this trophy as a player in 2017.
