Wynn Resorts will not require employees to be vaccinated against Covid-19, but the Las Vegas-based casino operator is running a program in an effort to keep the coronavirus at bay.
Wynn CEO Matthew Maddox told CNBC’s Jim Cramer on Thursday that staff can choose to be tested or vaccinated on a weekly basis, both of which can be done on-site.
“I don’t think our job is to make vaccines mandatory for everyone, but what I do require is that we are Covid-free in our workforce,” he said in an interview about “Mad Money.”
About 60% of Wynn employees have been vaccinated, Maddox said. The company reported having approximately 27,500 employees at the end of last year, 14,400 of them in the United States.
The Wynn Las Vegas Encore hotel is a local vaccination site where more than 40,000 vaccinations have been administered, Maddox said, including 4,000 employees.
“We will continue to do everything we can to create a safe environment that we know is going to be fun, because it is coming,” said Maddox. “The fun is coming.”
Wynn is one of several companies that have decided not to require employees to receive a Covid-19 vaccine, although many experts say it would be legal for employers to make the health precaution mandatory. About 3 million people in the US now get photos every day as states lift age restrictions.

Shares of Wynn were up 0.61% to close at $ 133.49 on Thursday. The stock is up 18% this year, surpassing the S&P 500 so far.
